This regulated Level 4 Diploma is one of the first qualifications designed to prepare candidates to work professionally as Equine Hydrotherapists, with recognition from the Institute of Equine Hydrotherapists (IEH), a subgroup of the Institute of Registered Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapists (IRVAP).

It provides the foundational knowledge, applied skills, and clinical reasoning required to practise safely, ethically, and confidently within a modern equine hydrotherapy setting.

Level 4 Diploma in Applied Equine Hydrotherapy
Why this qualification exists

Equine hydrotherapy is a specialised and rapidly developing field

Working safely and professionally requires more than a short course or informal training. This qualification exists to provide a credible, regulated entry route into equine hydrotherapy — one that prioritises:

Animal welfare

Clinical reasoning

Professional standards

Long-term, sustainable practice

Whether you are already working in the equine industry or looking to move into hydrotherapy as a career, this diploma gives you the depth and structure needed to practise responsibly.

What this qualification enables you to do

This Level 4 Diploma
supports you to:

Develop a strong theoretical foundation in equine hydrotherapy

Make clinically reasoned decisions, not protocol-driven guesses

Communicate effectively with owners, vets, and other professionals

Apply hydrotherapy techniques safely and appropriately

Work ethically and within scope of practice

Begin building a recognised and insurable professional pathway

On successful completion, eligible graduates may apply for membership with the Institute of Equine Hydrotherapists (IEH).

Is this suitable if I am new to equine hydrotherapy?

Yes — provided you already have experience working with horses.

This qualification is designed as a professional entry route, not a general interest course.

DB+

I recently completed the Introduction to Equine Hydrotherapy course with Aquaequi and thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was packed with useful, practical information, with plenty of time for discussion around our own cases, which made it highly relevant to clinical practice. Grace was fantastic - approachable, knowledgeable, and genuinely open to questions. I never felt that any question was too small or too basic, which created a really supportive learning environment. We observed a range of horses using the treadmill and were given the opportunity to watch them trot up beforehand - something I found particularly valuable from a clinical assessment perspective. A really insightful and well-delivered course that I’d highly recommend

Exceptional Level 6 Equine Hydrotherapy Training – Aquaequi - This innovative, sector leading Level 6 equine hydrotherapy course has been outstanding. The academic content is rigorous, evidence‑based and clearly aligned with higher‑level study, encouraging critical thinking and a strong understanding of rehabilitation science and clinical decision‑making. Theory is consistently linked to application, building confidence, competence and professional judgement rather than simply teaching protocols. The teaching team are highly knowledgeable, supportive and approachable, providing clear guidance and constructive feedback throughout. The course strikes an excellent balance between academic depth and practical skill development, making it both challenging and highly rewarding. What truly sets the course apart is the quality of the practical training too. Hands‑on sessions are exceptionally well structured, welfare‑focused and directly relevant to real‑world clinical practice. I have learned an enormous amount and would highly recommend this course to anyone seeking a high‑quality, professionally relevant qualification in equine hydrotherapy.

I attended an Equine First Aid course run by AquaEqui at the Unicorn Centre in Stow. The course was incredibly informative and has given me the confidence with horses going forward that I would know what to do if any required first aid. I learnt much more than I thought I would, its surprising how many old wive's tales really aren't true. Their approach to teaching was fun and relaxed, a really easy environment to learn in. The demo horses; Bob and Rupert, were incredibly well behaved and having them available to practice some of the taught skills was really useful. I would recommend Grace and Jenny to anyone and I'm looking forward to any future courses that I may attend with them.
